PRENATAL MASSAGE: What is it?

By: Amy Parker

What is prenatal massage? Prenatal Massage is a form of massage that is geared to meet the needs of the pregnant woman, specifically it promotes better functioning of muscles and joints and overall body tone, prenatal massage also improves circulation. Prenatal massage also helps decrease mental and physical stress and fatigue.

Prenatal massage is typically started during the 2nd and/or third trimester. While lying on her side, a pregnant woman can be massaged on her side, in a semi-reclining position, and even on her belly, with the use of a specially-designed pillow.

Helping to relieve sciatic nerve pain and multiple other conditions experienced during pregnancy, prenatal massage is an effective therapy for helping to calm, and promote overall wellbeing.
